Nicola Ghirardelli
(Como, 1994)
Bio / CV / Artworks
Nicola Ghirardelli (b.1994, Como) lives and works in Tuscany, Italy.
Ghirardelli's practice encompasses sculptures, installations and site-specific interventions. His work is an ongoing process of expansion and definition, aiming to create meaning from an ecosystem of impressions and hints.
The artist explores the boundaries of the present and the anachronism of forms, taking inspiration from the past while trying to anticipate the future.
By intersecting the Warburgian survival of images and Latour’s hybrid networks, his work focuses on the tension created by the coexistence of alterities.
Drawing from archaeological and natural elements selected from everyday life, Ghirardelli perpetuates a collection designed to catalog and organize reality, reassembling it into artifacts evoked by post-human visions and fueled by generational traumas and apocalyptic predictions.
Giardino in cenere
at The Address, April 23 – June 02, 2024
"The art of the garden, present in Western culture since antiquity, expanded within bourgeois culture through the reorganisation of nature and its inflorescences, finding great fertility in the French courts of the 14th century and later in the Italian courts of the early Renaissance. The principle of the associative system through which to reformulate the natural order is based on the search for an idea of organicity, of a floral..."

"Fuori porta, which is an Italian expression, evokes imagery of journeys beyond city gates, typically to the countryside or areas outside urban development. It shares similarities with the concept of suburbia, indicating a peripheral zone within a region or urban agglomeration. Santa Croce sull'Arno exemplifies this idea as a manufacturing center marked by substantial industrialization. This evolution has not only influenced urban planning but also reshaped social structures and redefined the interaction between the built environment and its surroundings. As a result, the area embodies a green, naturalistic ethos characterized by hills and woodlands..."

at Sottofondo studio, Arezzo, June 25 – July 17, 2022
"The group exhibition reflects about artworks that capture frozen moments in a creative journey unfolding over time. These narratives respond to the challenge set by Sottofondo, prompting viewers to reflect on the theme of disappearance and its significance in the artistic practices of the three participating artists. Sardella, Ghirardelli and Montinaro collaborate to construct a realm where stories and remnants of past elements converge, akin to cataloging them in an inventory..."
