Bio / CV / Artworks
Marina Cavadini (b.1988, Milan) lives and works in Milan, Italy.
Marina Cavadini is a research-based artist working in a wide range of media including performance, sculpture and video. Informed by biology, she integrates organic and inanimate materials to reflect the multiplicity of our existence. Her work engages deeply with themes of vulnerability and intimacy, employing processes of decay, mimicry and symbiosis. By doing so, she infuses her art with a surrealistic and erotic sensibility.
Cavadini's approach often involves a meticulous examination of biological processes, transforming them into metaphors for human experience. Her performance pieces might explore the gradual transformation of organic matter, symbolizing the inevitable decay inherent in life. In her sculptures, she juxtaposes living organisms with man-made objects, creating a dialogue between life and death, nature and artifice. This interplay underscores the interconnection of all forms of existence, highlighting how the boundaries between them are often blurred.
Fare i conti con il rurale
Iseo, at Fondazione L'Arsenale, April 29 – June 06, 2023
"To truly connect with rural areas and nature, central themes in this exhibition, we must change how we view the world's components. Our understanding of rural landscapes and ecosystems, which shape our idea of territory, is deformed by the scales of relationships we encounter. These relationships often lack alignment due to a shortage of cultural touchstones that could aid in comprehending and applying this knowledge. Our current cultural frameworks limit us to deciphering nature through fragmented observations, leading us to see it primarily as something to consume rather than as a wellspring of wisdom..."

Eat Me,
at The Address, November 26, 2022 – February 05, 2023
"A horizon animated by a barely noticeable stream; a field of dehydrated xerophile; a cluster of nervous gerrids; a larva squirming for its own fate. Five static shots show as many subjects and their interaction with the liquid matter. Videos, reproduced on monitor and foldable smartphone, display macro-frames on which details are taken out of context and expanded until they reach an unnatural abstraction.

"Goose bumps are a mechanism that someone would consider obsolete. And for some aspects it actually is. On the other hand, it made sense only on a shaggy back and few humans can boast nowadays of a fur like that. It meant on velvety arms, on carpet-thighs and a doormat-belly. Once you greased with goose fat. You could scare, apparently becoming more frightening, or you could immediately protect yourself from the cold. But on the polished skin..."

This video shows ants moving quickly among a cactus’ thorns while water drops out ofthe irrigation system. Between images and sound there is a synesthetic auditory-tactile relationship that provokes a neurological phenomenon called ASMR. Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response consists in automatic and involuntary experiences of pleasure which come from a diverse range of stimuli. Close-ups of latex, silicone and lycra accessories trigger a euphoria feeling called "braingasm".
